Bloomberg helped to take down a Military Veteran’s Congressional Campaign

Today, the Veteran is calling out Bloomberg’s Hypocrisy and Dishonesty

“Bloomberg led voters to believe I was pro-crime, pro-violence on women, and aligned with terrorists. He is an elitist hypocrite who will say and do anything to get his way.” – Paul Chabot

It was 2014, I was the GOP Nominee for a Congressional House Race (CA31) in Southern California. It was an open seat vacated by a retiring GOP Congressman. The Democrat Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) made it their top pick-up fight in the country while the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) sat on their hands. We were alone in the fight.
As a military veteran who served in Iraq, former California Parole Board Commissioner and reserve law enforcement officer, I naturally developed thick skin for nonsense. It was not so much the barrage of negative commercials and mailers from the DCCC that bothered me. Nor was it the last-minute visit to the district by Vice President Biden supporting my opponent and the complete lack of NRCC support to counter the DCCC. Instead, it was the outside money coming in from a group called Moms Demand Action – a Political Action Committee (PAC) funded by billionaire Michael Bloomberg.
Before I get to their attacks on my character, lets better understand Michael Bloomberg and his PAC. In 2013, Bloomberg largely funded the creation of Everytown for Gun Safety, a combination of Mayors Against Illegal Guns and Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense. Their funds target candidates like myself who are pro Second Amendment.
Bloomberg’s PAC attacks on me were not only dishonest, they were reprehensible. His ads placed my face next to a terrorist, completely discrediting the fact that I served in Iraq in a Joint Special Operations Task Force tasked with killing and capturing terrorists. Another ad placed my face next to a tattooed man behind bars and a female in shock and bound. In reality, I was a former California Parole Board Commissioner endorsed by law enforcement and crime victim rights groups a reserve law enforcement officer with 20-years of experience, and a husband and father with three young girls. Bloomberg led voters to believe I was pro-criminal, pro-violence on women, and aligned to terrorists. Disgusting!

How dishonest and hypocritical is Bloomberg? Take him at his own words. In 2018, Huffington Post and CBS both ran a story on Bloomberg’s commencement speech at Rice University. The headlines included, “Bloomberg Slams ‘Epidemic’ of Political Lies as danger to Democracy” (HuffPost). “Michael Bloomberg: Americans Facing Epidemic of Dishonesty” (CBS). Bloomberg stated in his speech, “There is now more tolerance for dishonesty in politics than I have seen in my lifetime…The only thing more dangerous than dishonest politicians who have no respect for the law is a chorus of enablers who defend their every lie…The greatest threat to American democracy isn't communism, jihadism or any other external force or foreign power. It's our own willingness to tolerate dishonesty in service of party, and in pursuit of power.”
Bloomberg’s last-minute barrage of dishonest political attacks likely did tip my race. I ended up losing by 3-points despite being outspent 11 to 1 while polling weeks before showed the race even.
Bloomberg’s billions have literally changed elections in America, because he could – funding lies through a PAC he founded. And now he is running for President a hypocrite billionaire who has yet to be challenged on his ability to tip races with his PAC using the same tactics he railed against at Rice University.
